BYD shares are roaring after the Tesla rival announced its 5-minute super fast chargers

As if Tesla execs didn’t have enough on their plates so far in 2025, one of their biggest rivals in the electric vehicle game just unveiled new charging tech that’s reportedly more than twice as fast as the Musk-owned company’s — or any other EV chargers’ — most powerful offering. BYD stock rallied more than 6% on the news, and is up ~75% in the last year. Tesla is modestly red again in premarket trading.

Per CNBC, the Chinese EV giant revealed that its new “Super e-Platform” tech will have peak charging speeds of 1,000 kilowatts and could provide ~250 miles of range in 5 minutes, and will be fitted in cars that are ready to hit the market next month. To put that into perspective, Tesla’s “Superchargers” allow EV owners to charge up to 200 miles in 15 minutes, while the new all-electric CLA from Mercedes-Benz can reach the same 200-mile mark in 10 minutes.

At the event where the game-changing chargers were revealed, CEO Wang Chuanfu explained that “The ultimate solution is to make charging as quick as refueling a gasoline car,” as range anxiety continues to worry some would-be and current EV owners. With plans to role out more than 4,000 super-fast ports equipped with the tech across China, BYD — in its home nation at least — is leading the charge.

After the rise, the ~$162 billion car-making company is now worth more than 4x Ford’s market cap.

TikTok gets another lifeline as Trump delays the app’s divest-or-ban deadline — again

President Trump delayed TikTok’s breakup deadline for another 75 days on Friday, giving the viral video app over two months to split from Chinese parent ByteDance or get banned in the US. The app had been staring down a Saturday deadline to hammer out a deal.

It’s the second delay this year, after the Supreme Court unanimously upheld the law in January. ByteDance, which had stayed quiet until now, acknowledged it’s been in talks with Washington. Behind the scenes, contenders including Blackstone, Oracle, and Amazon have all been linked to potential bids for the app.

“There are key matters to be resolved,” a ByteDance spokesperson said, noting that any deal will still need a green light from China.

Tariffs have knocked Boeing’s stock price lower than it was when 737 doors were flying off mid-flight

After months of self-inflicted damage to its reputation and revenue, Boeing is being reminded that outside factors play a role in stock price, too. Shares of Americas beleaguered plane maker fell to as low as $132.79 intraday Friday, their lowest level since October 26, 2022.

Back then, Boeing stock was recovering a month after the company paid a $200 million penalty to the SEC to settle charges that its former CEO made materially misleading statements on two deadly 737 crashes in 2018 and 2019.

Boeings intraday Friday bottom is surprising, considering the events that Boeings experienced over the past 18 or so months. If youll recall, a door plug on a 737 Max 9 blew out mid-flight in January 2024, and 33,000 of the companys union machinists went on strike for seven weeks last fall (costing Boeing about $50 million per day). Last year was Boeings worst since 2020, with the companys annual loss totaling $11.8 billion.

Squeezing the stock lately are Trump administration tariffs, which are set to close a 45-year chapter during which Boeing, Airbus, and other jet manufacturers were largely exempt from the levies across the US, China, Canada, and most of Europe. China on Friday announced 34% reciprocal tariffs on US goods.
